Hericium erinaceus is a fungus of the genus Ericius in the family Odontothecae. The fruit body is medium, large or large, 3.5-10(30) cm in diameter, fleshy, shaped like a head or egg, like the head of a monkey, hence the name "monkey head". Hericium ericium is not only a valuable food but also an important medicinal fungus in China. Hericihead mushroom is one of the eight "mountain treasures" in China.
