Three needles, Chinese medicine name. The source of the material is the roots, stems, and bark of various plants in the Berberidaceae family, such as the fine leaved Berberis, the prickly black pearl, the blue fruit Berberis, the cat prickly Berberis, and the spoon leaved Berberis. The root bark can be harvested throughout the year. Harvest the stem bark in spring and autumn, scrape off the outer skin from the stem branches, peel off the deep yellow inner skin, and dry it in the sun.
