Saccharomyces boulardii is a tropical strain of yeast is non-pathogenic and non- systemic with biotherapeutic features. It has been found to be an effective probiotic that combats a wide range of gastrointestinal disorders and variety of diarrheal symptoms. It may help maintain normal colonic populations of healthful Bifido bacteria probiotic strains and support the body’s defenses against potential intestinal pathogens. It has also shown to weaken the effects of microbial disease caused toxins. Saccharomyces boulardii is resistant to temperature and pH changes, it can be considered as an ideal probiotic to take traveling and the contents of the capsules can be mixed with food or beverages for those who have trouble swallowing pills. S. boulardii enhances the immune response in pediatric acute gastroenteritis. It also has been known to secrete a variety of proteases which have inhibiting abilities on pro-inflammatory cytokines.
