The 5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) extracted from Griffonia simplicifolia seeds by BannerBio Nutraceuticals Inc is GRAS certified. It can be directly applied to not only dietary supplements, but also beverages, candies and bakery products.

Functions and Applications

5-HTP act as an immediate precursor of serotonin. It crosses blood-brain barrier freely and is readily converted to serotonin. 5-HTP helps improve mood, depression, anxiety & insomnia and migraine. It has been used as dietary supplements in North America, South America, European countries and some parts of Asia.

Since our 5-HTP meets the specifications cited in the GRAS dossier, it can be used in beverages (non-alcoholic; such as nutritional beverages, sports drinks, energy drinks), bakery products (include breakfast bars) and candy [includes all types of candy (including dietetic sweets), chocolate-covered nuts, chocolate chips, fruit leather, and chewing gum] at use levels up to 50mg per serving.

Industrialized production of 5-HTP could be derived from the extraction of Griffonia seeds, and could also come from microbial fermentation.
