Fenugreek is an annual herb. Whole plant fragrant, hirsute, stem erect, tufted, hollow. 3 Pinnately compound leaves alternate, petiolate, leaflets long ovate or ovate-lanceolate, lower margin entire, upper part serrate. Flowers sessile, 1-2 in leaf axils; Calyx tube; Corolla butterfly, white at first, gradually pale yellow. Pod slender, cylindrical, apex long caudate. Seeds numerous, brown, slightly horseshoe shaped, with distinct longitudinal reticulate. Flowering period from April to June, fruit from July to August. Mainly born in cold, dry, sandy or viscous soil areas, mainly in Henan, Anhui, Sichuan, Gansu and other places. It has the functions of warming the kidney, dispelling cold and relieving pain. It is used for the symptoms of kidney deficiency cold, cold pain in the lower abdomen, small intestine hernia, cold wet beriberi and so on.
