Resveratrol’s may benefit cardiovascular health through its antioxidant action and its ability to promote healthy platelet function and maintain healthy arachidonic acid metabolism. It may have antibacterial properties and be used as an antifungal agent. It is also believed to benefit cognitive health by protecting brain cells from free radicals that may cause mental deterioration.
Acetyl-resveratrol is classified as a prodrug under medicinal chemistry and is considered more stable than trans-resveratrol. Resveratrol (3,5,4'-trihydroxy-trans-stilbene) is a stilbenoid, a type of natural phenol, and a phytoalexin produced naturally by several plants (botanical/herbal) – especially the roots of the Japanese Knotweed, from which it is extracted commercially – when under attack by pathogens such as bacteria or fungi.
