The National Organic Program (NOP) has announced critical updates that will impact all stakeholders in the organic food industry. Effective September 19, 2024, all organic products entering the United States must be accompanied by a valid NOP Import Certificate. <h2>Key NOP Import Certificate Changes and Deadlines</h2>

Starting September 19, all exporters must secure an NOP Import Certificate before products leave the exporting country. This certificate must be requested from the certifying body, such as CCOF, at least five business days before shipment. After the cutoff date, shipments without a valid NOP Import Certificate will need to be either sold as conventional or returned to the exporter.
&nbsp;
Previously, customs brokers could temporarily process shipments without an import certificate. However, this leniency ends on September 19, 2024, meaning all shipments must comply with the new requirements in the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) system used by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
