A Selection of Wellmune’s Published Clinical Research
Beverage Containing Dispersible Yeast β-Glucan Decreases Cold/Flu Symptomatic Days After Intense Exercise: A Randomized Controlled TrialIn this double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled parallel study, we examined the effect of dairy-based beverages (250 mL/day) containing 250 mg of dispersible baker’s yeast b-glucan (Wellmune®) compared to a macronutrient- and calorie-matched control on upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) in marathon runners.
Oral Supplementation with Baker’s Yeast Beta Glucan Is Associated with Altered Monocytes, T Cells and Cytokines following a Bout of Strenuous ExerciseExercise and physical labor in extreme environmental conditions causes transient decreases in immune cell and cytokine concentrations, likely increasing the susceptibility to opportunistic infection. Baker’s yeast beta glucan (BYBG) has been previously demonstrated to be an effective countermeasure in athletes, but its effectiveness in individuals of average fitness under similar physical stress is unknown. The purpose of this study was to determine if 10 days of oral supplementation with BYBG could modify previously observed suppression of monocytes, T cells, circulating and whole blood LPS-stimulated cytokines due to strenuous exercise.
Worldwide, interest is high in immune health. What do consumers want and when do they want it?
When evaluating an immune health ingredient, focus on the research. Quality research is the key to understanding and communicating the safety of an ingredient, how it works, and its benefits – all of which help deliver products consumers can trust and value.
Immune support is the 2nd most desired health benefit consumers want from products.1 Increased interest is leading to an increase awareness of the immune health benefits of beta glucans. But not all beta glucans support immune health. And not all beta glucans are suitable for creating functional foods, beverages and supplements that offer the clinically-proven health benefits consumers value most. When sourcing beta glucans for immune health product formulation, here are the key things to understand.
