Acerola is a fruit with antioxidant, diuretic, astringent and anti - inflammatory properties. It is a rich source of vitamin C, the content of which may vary due to several factors , such as developmental stage, climate, harvest season, geographic location and amount of sunlight received.
Our acerola has been harvested while still green and has a higher vitamin C content than the mature fruit. It is therefore more suited to the production of medicines, cosmetics and food supplements.
An acerola can contain up to 4% of vitamin C in its early stages of development and up to 2% in mature fruits, levels that are much higher than that of a peeled orange which only contains 0.05% of vitamin C1. Its high content of ascorbic acid (vitamin C) is responsible for the antioxidant characteristics of the fruit and offers many benefits to the body, strengthening immune defense, assisting enzymatic activity, stimulating blood coagulation mechanisms and increasing iron absorption. Acerola also has several other active ingredients, such as B vitamins, vitamin A (carotene), proteins, fructose, sucrose, iron, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium and potassium, with the last two being found at twice the amount found in an orange. In addition, it contains flavonoids, which protect the walls of blood vessels, improve blood circulation and combat the inflammatory processes of the body.
